On to the New New?

After deciding to write the Logical Increments backend in Scala and getting frustrated with the lack of clear, up-to-date docs for sbt, I found myself playing around with Go for standing up a simple RESTful API.

Oh look, a JSON marshalling library.

Oh look, a MongoDB client library.

Oh look, a friendly Routing library.

Wire it all up, and bam - it took me less time to create a working example in Go than it took to set up my Scala project and its dependencies. Granted, I’m new to both worlds, but Go certainly left me with a better taste in my mouth.

This requires more investigation.

On to the New

I’ve decided to write Logical Increments’ backend in Scala. Finally digging into the language for something more than science experiments.

I’m also taking this opportunity to introduce myself to the Play Framework. Feels familiar enough. I’m more interested in playing with some of the Akka stuff it’s built on, but I figure I’ll start at the top and work my way down as needed.

The current incarnation of Logical Increments continues to perform well. Last month we drove a quarter million in sales. Orion must be proud.
